I am an ambassador for 5K Your Way, Move Against Cancer https://5kyourway.org. This initiative which was set up only a year ago in Nottingham by an oncologist, who had been affected by cancer herself and was passionate about getting those affected by cancer back to exercise.
I really wanted this initiative to come to Leeds and felt that with my background as both a nurse and then a physiotherapist specialising in cancer rehab for more than 15 years in the NHS presently with Rehab Beyond Cancer that I would be a suitable candidate to apply to be an ambassador.
I would like to take this opportunity to share information about 5K Your Way and hopefully encourage you and your family/friends to join us.
5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer is a community based initiative to encourage those living with and beyond cancer, their families, friends and those working in cancer services to walk jog, run cheer or volunteer at a local 5K Your Way parkrun event on the last Saturday of every month. The Leeds 5K Your Way is affiliated to the Woodhouse Moor Parkrun. After the walk/run, we meet up in at the Opposite Café afterwards for drinks, a bite to eat and good old natter if you fancy it. For those of you that want the challenge of beating your time you can register in advance so that a time is recorded for your walk/run. This can be done by registering online at www.parkrun.org.uk in advance of the day. Or we can help you with this in the café afterwards.
Each 5K Your Way, will have an ambassador there to meet and greet you at the designated area which for Leeds is the Duke of Wellington Statue but don’t worry you will spot the ambassadors as we are in a bright blue sweatshirt with our 5K Your Way logo on. We are the ‘go to’ for each event and will run/walk with some of you if we can.
